POW Origins

POW started in 2002 with a problem every rider knows. On a drive to the ski area in Washington State, founder Dustin Goss got fed up with cold, wet hands and decided to make something better. The first gloves were sold out of a car to local skiers and snowboarders in the Pacific Northwest, one of the wettest snow regions around. More than two decades later, POW still designs and tests its handwear in Washington, and it's gloves and mitts are some of the best around.

Which POW Glove?

POW makes gloves, mitts, trigger mitts and liners. Here's a quick guide to the range at Quest:

  • Want leather? The Royal GORE-TEX Glove pairs goatskin leather with a GORE-TEX insert, 3M Thinsulate insulation and an anti-pill microfleece lining. The Wayback GORE-TEX Glove is another option with a GORE-TEX insert.
  • Feel the cold? Mitts like the Stealth GORE-TEX Mitt and GT Mitt keep your fingers together and sharing warmth.
  • Shopping for women? Check out the Cascadia women's mitt.
  • Kitting out the kids? POW's junior GORE-TEX gloves and mitts are made for smaller hands.
  • Like to switch it up? The Versa WINDSTOPPER Flip Mitt lets you go between mitt and fingers.

FYI - GORE-TEX and WINDSTOPPER Aren't the Same

Both are made by Gore, but they do different jobs. GORE-TEX is a waterproof, breathable membrane, while WINDSTOPPER is designed to block wind. If you ride in wet, heavy snow a lot, a waterproof GORE-TEX model is the safer bet.

Glove Fit and Care

A glove should let you move your fingers comfortably without squashing the insulation, because compressed insulation isn't as warm. Use the size chart for the model you're buying, and follow the care instructions, especially with leather.

Part of the Pacific Northwest Scene

POW backs Mt Baker, the Legendary Banked Slalom and Boarding for Breast Cancer, and its team lists Kai Huggin, Brayden Charette, Ryan Paterson, Ben Gjerdalen, Colin Wili and Zoe Kalapos. Read the POW Gloves story.

And just in case there is confusion, POW Gloves is a glove brand, not the climate group Protect Our Winters. Both are awesome.
