Pass~Port: Aussie Skateboarding Culture

Pass~Port is Australian skateboarding with a sense of humour. Trent Evans started the brand in 2009 after years working in skate shops on the Sunshine Coast and in Brisbane and studying graphic design, and it's now based in Sydney, where it runs a store and gallery. The aim from day one was a platform for Australian skating and its visual culture, and you can see it in the graphics: Australian life, old books, symbols and local jokes, told through illustration and embroidery rather than just a logo.

Pass~Port or Passport?

Both. The brand spells its name Pass~Port, with a tilde, but you'll often see it written as Passport. Same brand, and nothing to do with travel wallets.

A Kiwi on the Crew

Pass~Port's skaters help shape what the brand puts out, and there is Kiwi representation on the team. Matthieu Lucas D'Souza hails from Christchurch. Evans has also talked about working with Callum Paul, Jack O'Grady, Matlok Bennett-Jones and Geoff Campbell, who both skates and films for the brand. The full-length video Kitsch, partly filmed in Paris, is a big part of the Pass~Port story.

Pass~Port Collabs

  • Nike SB Dunk High (2022): hiking references, earthy colours and D-ring lacing brought Australian bush style to a skate shoe.
  • Carhartt: a project built around a team trip to the Northern Territory.
  • Michael Leunig: an artwork series Evans has called one of his most personally important projects.

Is Pass~Port Made in Australia?

Some of it. Pass~Port's Australian Manufactured programme makes selected garments, leather goods and knits locally, including knits made in Melbourne from Australian wool. The rest of the range is made elsewhere, so check the product details if local manufacture matters to you. At Quest we carry an every changing range of Pass~Port clothing and skate decks, with the selection changing as new drops arrive.
