About CAPiTA Snowboards

Blue Montgomery and Jason Brown founded CAPiTA in Seattle in 2000. The name comes from "per capita", the idea of a brand made by and for the people, and the early focus was on boards, graphics and riders. When its Austrian manufacturing partner ran into difficulties, CAPiTA took control of production, which led to the establishment of the Mothership.

Made at the Mothership

The Mothership is CAPiTA's own factory in Austria, and it's a big part of what makes the brand different. Building its own boards lets CAPiTA develop its own processes, including PLT topsheet technology, a proprietary way of applying a finished graphic layer that CAPiTA says reduces weight and improves finish. CAPiTA also says its production runs on 100% clean energy, sources 90% of its materials within an eight-hour drive, and uses NFC tracking to follow each board's journey through the factory. The company is a Certified B Corporation, which means they meet high standards for social and environmental performance and public transparency.

Boards for Every Kind of Rider

CAPiTA's range includes super popular models like the D.O.A., Mega Mercury, Aeronaut and Spring Break Resort Twin, alongside the Dark Horse, Indoor Survival and Navigator, and women specific models like Birds of a Feather and The Equalizer. Construction varies from model to model. CAPiTA describes the Aeronaut's Panda Hover Core as an ultralight core with bamboo power rods for power and response, and the Mega Mercury's Supercore as a lightweight blend of woods with recycled thermopolymer channels for durability and pop.

Riders and Local Talent

CAPiTA's team spans disciplines, and includes some of the world's most recognizable riders. Shredders like Jess Kimura, Torstein Horgmo, Kazu Kokubo and Arthur Longo to Mia Brookes, who became the youngest snowboard world champion ever when she won the 2023 slopestyle title at 16 and has since taken back-to-back Big Air World Cup Crystal Globes. Her pro model is at Quest, alongside pro models from Miles Fallon and Austin Vizz.

Closer to home, Queenstown's Tiarn Collins is part of the CAPiTA Explorers team. In 2022 he became the first New Zealander to win a FIS Snowboard Crystal Globe, taking the slopestyle title, and he represented New Zealand at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.
