About Butter Goods
Butter Goods was started in Perth in 2008 by Garth Mariano and Matt Evans, school friends who skated together and had been making things for years before they launched a label. Mariano studied graphic design and worked at Beyond Skate, and the pair wanted to give back to Australian skate culture the way earlier local brands had given to them. Nearly two decades on, Butter is still a skateboarding company first, with clothing at the heart of it.

Jazz, Hip-Hop, Funk and Soul
You can hear Butter's graphics if you look closely. The founders' love of jazz, 1990s hip-hop, funk and soul shows up in the typography, artwork, colour combos and period styling, sometimes subtly and sometimes out loud. The clearest example is Butter's collaboration with the legendary jazz label Blue Note Records. Butter has also worked with Puma on footwear and apparel, and with DC on a project rooted in Chicago's skate scene.
Watch the Videos
A lot of Butter's credibility comes from its skate films. Expansions features Philly Santosuosso, Morgan Campbell, Casey Foley, Alex Schmidt, Ben Gore and Phil Marshall, Quartet adds Alex Campbell, and Irie is another favourite from the archive. They're a good way to see how the clothes are meant to be worn: loose, easy and ready to skate.
The Butter Goods NZ Range at Quest
The graphic tees get the attention, but there's much more to the range. You can shop Butter button-up and patterned shirts, jeans, work pants and other bottoms, shorts, hoodies, crews, sweaters and jackets, plus caps, beanies, bags and belts. Quest ships Butter Goods New Zealand wide.
How Do Butter Goods Fit?
Butter's shapes are relaxed, but that doesn't mean everything runs large. A baggy jean can have a normal waist size with extra room through the leg, and a boxy tee can be wide without being long.
